About the session

A practical, strategy-rich session, supporting school staff with ideas to improve pupils' own understanding of what they are reading.

Do you know children who are struggling to comprehend what they are reading?

Are they reading with accuracy but can’t answer any questions about the text they have just read?

Do they find inference difficult?

Are you unsure how to best develop and accelerate clarifying, inference, and deduction skills?

Are you concerned pupils are not developing a love of reading because their reading comprehension is compromised?

Would you value simple and highly effective intervention ideas to accelerate reading comprehension?

This session will:

  • Explain the rationale behind scaffolding and how it works to support and accelerate reading comprehension.
  • Provide practical ideas and strategies you can use whole class or as a group intervention.
  • Develop subject knowledge behind reading comprehension including clarifying and advanced comprehension.
  • Explore some of the causes of difficulties in reading comprehension and how to overcome them.
